When there are vacancies, ZOOM House uses a network of partnership and referral organizations to identify families appropriate for the program. All residents must meet the selection criteria for the building, which include rental, credit, employment, and criminal background checks.
Families are housed as quickly as possible and begin their work towards family stability.
Upon arrival, ZOOM House prepares a fully-furnished apartment for the families arriving from shelters. These furnishings are the family’s to keep. Also, families are provided with welcome baskets, birthday boxes for children, and ongoing access to our food shelf 4 days a month.
Case management and resource navigation help residents build long-term stability. Upon intake, each head-of-household meets with an in-house family advocate to articulate goals for themselves and their families. Goals can be around finances, education, and housing, along with other areas identified by residents including employment, family stability, transportation, childcare, relationships, community involvement, safety, and chemical/mental/physical health. Together, the resident and family advocate will assess the individual needs of the resident and determine if ongoing direct case management, or a combination of resource navigation, drop-in care, targeted goal planning and/or Life Skills series best support resident goals.
